They get such a bad rep, don’t they? It’s no secret that most IT departments and the travel industry brace for issues during this time. And you might find your friends messaging you about the nightmares they’re having with their cars or electrical goods.
But I recently had an enlightening experience during this retrograde and wanted to share it with you.
First, what is Mercury? Mercury is the planet of intellect, communication, travel, and plans.
So, what does it mean when it’s retrograde?
The term "retrograde" comes from the apparent westward motion of the planet in relation to the stars—essentially, it appears to move in the opposite direction. This backward motion puzzled ancient astronomers, which is partly why they named these bodies "planets," from the Greek word for "wanderer."
Even more beautifully, in ancient astrology, planets in retrograde were believed to be journeying through the underworld, gathering insights, perspectives, and information from the unseen world. This serves as a metaphor for what happens within our inner worlds when a planet is in retrograde.
This time is a beautiful opportunity to connect more deeply with your intuition, inner knowing, and the whispers of your heart. I’ve had some truly wonderful experiences during this retrograde and wanted to see if you’ve had anything similar.
The other day, Ross and I were walking by an Indian restaurant, and I felt an inexplicable urge to go in. As I stepped through the door, I spotted a familiar face and felt an instant connection. It was Debz—Debz from years ago at the office, Debz I hadn’t seen in what felt like a lifetime, Debz who was like my office mum, and who knew all my secrets back when I was a Social Services PA. We ran into each other and shared a big, warm hug.
We caught up, reminisced about the good old days at the office—collecting Haribo packets, X-Factor sweepstakes, and celebrating birthdays. Swipe to see some memory bank photos. It brought back a wave of nostalgia and pride in how far I've come.
As I shared what I’m doing now, she just smiled knowingly, saying, "Of course you are—that sounds more like Stevie." Mercury retrograde often brings back old memories and music, like my old love for JLS. I remember going to their concert, hoping to meet them, and feeling like an overexcited kid when it didn’t happen. I was with friends I’d made at work.
While retrogrades can bring unexpected people and memories back into your life, they also remind us of the beautiful moments from our past. Time moves on, and we should cherish the present because today’s moments will one day be just memories.
The nostalgia of a retrograde can lead to aha moments, realizations about your next steps, and some good old smiles from the memories you’ve collected along the way.
Tomorrow isn’t promised.
So, love your path and treasure your memories. And seriously, did anyone else love JLS as much as I did?
P.S. I’m proud of you and how well you’re doing on your journey—just as you are, right where you are. xxx
